Lions Serve Needy Children in Peru

During their recent Peru trip, the Lions spent the morning serving hundreds of indigent school children breakfast in partnership with the Lambayeque Lions club. Dennis Tichenor of the Milwaukie Lions Club, and Merry Meek and Warren Heathman of the Downtown Portland Lions Club, helped serve an oatmeal drink and marmalade sandwiches to each child in attendance. Additionally, each boy received a free haircut and the whole group enjoyed watching the performance of a dance troop, who treated everyone to eight unique dance numbers.

This social program is something that the Lambayeque Lions do six to seven times per year to help hungry children from the poorest areas of Lambayeque city. The Portland-area Lions were thrilled to participate in this Lions event, and lend their assistance in any way possible, from serving food, to giving hair cuts, to providing some entertainment by dancing in front of the children.
