Board of Directors
FACES benefits from a legacy of visionary philanthropists. The organization was founded in September of 2001 by Drs. Thomas Albert and Jeff Israel. Today, their vision is carried out by a strong Board of Directors and support staff.
Dr. Tom Albert
President Emeritus & Co-Founder
Dr. Tom Albert is a retired professor from Oregon Health and Sciences University in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Otolaryngology in Portland, Oregon. He was involved extensively in cleft education efforts with Project Hope in China from 1983-1993, and his experience and passion have brought the FACES Foundation to its current impact in Peru. His vision has always been to provide truly comprehensive cleft care, beyond surgery alone, to difficult-to-reach populations.
Mr. Kelly Jensen
President & Board Chair
Mr. Jensen is a business leader and management consultant with over 30 years’ experience introducing new health care technologies and management practices in the United States and Latin America. Mr. Jensen brings business experience from Kaiser Permanente, Baxter Healthcare, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, and state and federal agencies. He guides long-term planning and partnership-building in Peru and the United States.
Dr. Sharon Higgins
Board Treasurer
Dr. Sharon Higgins has served as President of Northwest Permanente, P.C. and Executive Medical Director of Kaiser Permanente Northwest. Prior to this, she served as Chief of Otolaryngology from 1987 to 1999, Vice President and Operations Medical Director for Specialty Care from 1999 to 2005, and subsequently Assistant Medical Director for Business Affairs.
Dr. Dana Smith
Medical Director & Board Secretary
Dr. Dana Smith is a Facial Plastic & Reconstructive surgeon at Northwest Permanente P.C. and currently directs the FACES Cleft Surgery Team for Peru. He has traveled to Peru with FACES since 2007, and in 2015 he was invited to Lima to present at an International Plastic Surgery conference where he gained the respect of his colleagues in Peru through excellent medical research presented in excellent Spanish.
Natalie Galvan
Board Member
Natalie Galvan is a Speech Language Pathologist who graduated from Portland State University with a master’s degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences with a Bilingual Certificate. She completed her clinical fellowship at the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center at OHSU and Shriners Children’s Hospital. Natalie enjoys supporting culturally diverse families in the areas of social skills, speech sounds, and alternative augmentative communication.
Aaron Williams
Board Member
Mr. Aaron Williams is a market research executive in the technology industry. He completed his MBA in Marketing and Management from the University of Washington in 2003 and went on to work for Microsoft in their Central Market Research team. Since then, Aaron has worked for various firms conducting research for Fortune 500 technology companies and is currently Executive Vice President at National Research Group. Aaron speaks fluent Spanish and has lived abroad in Latin America for multiple years.
Dr. Lisa Morris
Board Member
Dr. Lisa Morris is a Craniofacial and Facial Plastic Surgeon & Reconstructive Surgeon and an Assistant Professor at Louisiana State University-New Orleans. She is the Co-Director of the Cleft and Craniofacial Team at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. Dr. Morris has been active with FACES since 2011 and is passionate about delivering comprehensive cleft care to underserved populations. She consistently serves with cleft teams in Peru and in the Philippines.
Dr. Jessyka Lighthall
Board Member
Dr. Jessyka Lighthall is the Chief of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and an Associate Professor in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Penn State Health in Hershey, PA. Her practice spans both cosmetic and reconstructive facial surgery including treatment of congenital anomalies (e.g. cleft repair, microtia reconstruction), pediatric and adult facial trauma, care for patients with facial paralysis, cancer reconstruction, nose surgery, and cosmetic facial surgery. She has served with the FACES Surgical Team in Peru on multiple campaigns.
David Matheson
Board Member
David Matheson is a corporate lawyer with over 30 years’ of experience advising public and private companies on strategic transactions, corporate governance practices, raising capital, and acquiring and disposing of businesses. David has served as Chair of various sections of the Oregon State Bar and is recognized as a leading lawyer locally in his practice areas. David is also fluent in Spanish.
Leslie Warren
Board Member
Leslie Warren is a financial advisor for Manao Wealth Strategies in Portland, Oregon. After being a longtime supporter, she joined the FACES Team in Peru in January 2024 to assist with medical supply management. She is a pillar of joy and wisdom, and the FACES Board is happy for her willingness to serve and improve the foundation's operations.
Richard Odell
Board Member
Richard Odell spent over 26 years in leadership roles within Kaiser Permanente, contributing to physician practice, medical technology assessment, and research oversight in both the Northwest and Southern California regions. With a clinical background in respiratory care and cardiac perfusion, he was a leading expert in neonatal care and helped develop one of the first neonatal ECMO centers. He concluded his career in 2023 after consulting for the Saudi Ministry of Health on healthcare reform, and has consistently contributed to scientific research and community service throughout his career.

Angela Jensen Kelly
Executive Director
Angela first volunteered with FACES as a medical interpreter in 2013. She has returned every year since then to help coordinate the screening and surgical campaigns in Peru. In addition to FACES, Angela has worked in a variety of healthcare settings and has completed a Master’s in Healthcare Management at Oregon Health & Sciences University. During college, she spent time in Latin America as an exchange student, where she grew to love the people and their culture.

Delia Delgado Maldonado
Peru In-country Coordinator
Delia Delgado Maldonado is FACES’ Peru Patient Coordinator, working with patients, families and partners in Northern Peru. In March 2023, Delia completed a two year certificate program at Chemeketa College in Oregon for Speech Language Pathology Assisting. She works alongside FACES Speech Therapists to provide year-round virutal speech therapy to patients who have received cleft-correction surgery.

Rae Anne Lafrenz
Logistic and Operational Support
Rae Anne Lafrenz joined the FACES Team in June 2020. Prior to FACES, she served as Team Coordinator for the exploratory mission for Peace Brigades International in Peru. She has 20 years of experience living and working throughout Latin America in projects related to human rights, humanitarian aid, advocacy, and development.
Tonetta Weaver
Bookkeeper
Tonetta Weaver went to Northern Arizona University and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting and joined Faces Foundation in 2009. Her experience with different companies, as well as her corporate background has helped guide Faces in its journey to where it is today. Faces has also benefited from Tonetta’s creative side. She’s an actor, voice talent and author. Her recently published children’s book, “Tiny Frog Takes a Big Leap,” was translated into Spanish so she could donate copies to patients in Peru.
