Who We Are

FACES was founded in 2001. We are a volunteer organization comprised of health professionals including surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and geneticists from around the Portland-metro area.

Many of our volunteers are affiliated with Oregon Health Sciences University and Kaiser Permanente of Oregon.

The FACES Foundation medical team has provided hundreds of cleft lip and palate surgeries to medically isolated patients in South America since 2006. Children who receive these surgeries and our followup care are able to get proper nutrition, develop correct speech, and grow up to become productive members of their communities.

Our multidisciplinary team is based in Portland, OR, but we work internationally in Peru. Our current area of focus is in northern Peru, specifically in the Lambayeque and Amazonas regions.

Our model covers the following:

Surgery

Dental

Speech and Hearing

Nutrition

Education for families and health workers

Vision evaluation and  distribution of glasses with local partners

Local communitybased partnerships for sustainable care and support

All care is free to patients and their families.
